Evangelist Alice Harrell is The Cathedral at the Crossroads Member of the Month for September 2019. Alice is a widow, the loving wife of her late husband, Melvin Harrell, and loving mother to 3 devoted children, Iris, Ronda, and Leon. Leon went on to glory in 2005, but praise the Lord, he and his siblings were blessed to have been brought up in the fear and admonition of the Lord, and her whole immediate family (excluding her husband who passed in 1978) have been attending the Cathedral during various time periods since 1993 (her daughter Iris is currently still a member and a Deaconess).
Before attending the Cathedral, Mrs. Harrell attended Lively Stone Church, under the ministry of Bishop Scott, and was later baptized by Mother Gregory at her Church in Wellston, MO. At both Churches, Alice acknowledges receiving a very solid Christian foundation. Once Evangelist Harrell joined the Cathedral, her zeal for learning about the Lord continued, and she built upon her solid foundation. At the Cathedral, under the tutelage of then Pastor, the late Dr. James Drysdale, and Assistant Pastors, Rev. Carol Scott, and Rev. Bernadine Whitehorn, she excelled in knowledge and understanding, and humbly, at their requests, she was Licensed as Evangelist Alice Harrell, originally in 2004, and later Rev. Bland, current Pastor at The Cathedral, reaffirmed her Licensing in 2008, after his appointment as Pastor.
Besides her preaching duties, Evangelist Alice is a Sunday School teacher and is President of the choir, and is known for her deep, clear, and resonating voice in both singing and preaching. But as any minister worth his or her “salt” will tell you, it takes more than a pleasant and resounding voice to minister the word of God effectively in message or song---it takes a rich dose of the Holy Ghost and much studying to show one’s self approved. And as is evidenced by the power of her sermons, it is apparent that the Holy Spirit has indeed gifted her, and that she has also done much studying to show herself approved! When Evangelist Alice preaches, the congregation knows that their fingers are going to get much exercise rippling through the Bible, because to her credit, she references many, many scriptures throughout her messages. She, of course, does have some personal and practical anecdotes in her sermons, but she always backs up nearly every exposition with scripture. Her sermons are known for being succinct, directly to the point, and being very scripturally relevant! And speaking of scriptures, Evangelist Harrell’s favorite Biblical passage is the whole of Psalm 91, with an emphasis on verse 2: “I will say of the Lord, He is my refuge and my fortress: my God; in him will I trust.”
We at The Cathedral at the Crossroads Church are blessed and highly favored to have Evangelist Alice Harrell as a member, a songstress, a teacher, an Evangelist and a friend!
