In her own words:
"I would like to quote a phrase from the First Lady Serita Ann Jakes, 'First Ladies, as the wives of our country’s presidents are known, have shared their husbands’ platform of power to address causes close to their hearts.' "I, Lady LaVerne Boone-Bland, humble myself to my husband to encourage him to teach God’s words. I united with Cathedral at the Crossroads Church, July 1, 2007 after my husband (Rev. Erick F. Bland) was appointed Pastor. I was a member of Mount Beulah M.B. Church under the teachings of E.G. Shields, Sr. for over 38 years. After uniting with Cathedral, I said I was going to Enjoy the Journey. My motto is Work hard and cheerfully at whatever you do, as though you were working for the LORD rather than for people, as described in Colossians 3:23.
My functions in the Church are numerous, and just to name a few: the Church clerk; singing in the choir, which I enjoy ( I sang with the Wallace Singers many years); watering plants and also decorating the church with fresh flowers for Sundays or special occasions; reading and working with children; visiting the sick in their homes or hospital. Also, interpreting American Sign Language (ASL) is a passion of mine and I taught it in many Churches throughout the years. I am a worker for my God and Lord. I have one daughter that I bought into the marriage and one son, which the Reverend bought into the marriage. Being the First Lady of the Church is not an easy task, but I have God standing with me and I take my lead from HIM."
