Sister Gloria Tubbs is The Cathedral at the Crossroads Member of the Month for October, 2019. She was married to Master Sergeant Lee Tubbs, U.S. Air Force, and she has two adult children, Karen & Dwayne. She is also the proud and busy grandmother of 5 grandsons. Professionally, she is a retired educator and also because of her husband’s Air Force service, a world traveler. Her travels have helped to give her enormous insight into the roots of Christianity, thereby enhancing her own personal walk with the Lord and helping her relay to others, how Christianity is practiced throughout the world. She has a unique insight into the commonality we all share in Christ worldwide. For example, while living in Ismir, Turkey, she visited the Seven Churches mentioned in Revelations (it was in Biblical days referred to as Smyrna, where the Apostle Paul preached). She also lived in several different cities throughout Germany and got to visit the Berlin wall and several death camps, which of course gave her a special insight into the Jews modern day sufferings.
Sister Tubbs has been an active and very productive member at the Cathedral since 1985. Previous to joining The Cathedral, she was baptized at Central Baptist Church in the City of St. Louis, and was a member in good standing there, serving in several capacities over the years, under the instruction of various Pastors, until 1985. In 1985, Sister Tubbs moved to St. Louis County. Because of her dedication to Christian service and her hunger for the word, she continued for a while to make the relatively long commute to the city to Central Baptist for Sunday services, and Bible Study, and other Church activities. Eventually though, while driving past The Cathedral at the Crossroads one day with her daughter (which was close to her new county residence) her daughter Karen “just happened to notice” (probably directed by the Holy Spirit) the Cathedral, and convinced her mom that their family should visit. Sister Tubbs visited, liked what she saw and heard, and to our credit, became a member, and she has indeed been faithful in her attendance and her service to our Church since 1985. She is currently the President of the Usher Board and also an active member of the Women’s Fellowship, and she also helps to organize and maintain the Church’s inside bulletin boards, and helps to water and groom the plants in the lobby. Most of all however, despite her official duties, everyone knows that we can always count on Sister Tubbs to do whatever it takes to help make things happen! Very typical of having a servant’s heart, Sister Tubbs is often working behind the scenes, sometimes not always receiving notoriety, but she is tireless in her efforts to always make herself available to serve in whatever capacity needed.
Sister Gloria Tubbs favorite scripture is Psalms 91.
